Venus in the Constellations - interpretation resources

Post by Jim Eshelman » Mon May 08, 2017 12:42 pm

Here follow notes I've accumulated over the years on Venus in each of the Sidereal constellations. Other than the specific statistical findings (particularly based on the Gauquelin data), these haven't been vetted or confirmed - in some cases they are just casual observations jotted to consider later.

Writing about Venus in the constellations is tricky. I need to develop particular language for discussing these. Here are the considerations:

(1) Venus-sign placements aren't all that important in and of themselves. Even in statistical examinations, the "significant" findings have much lower scores than, say, Sun, Moon, or Mars.

(2) In particular, they are not part of the "character core" of an individual. In the notes following, I may use the same kind of language I would use in, say, Sun-sign or Moon-sign notes, but the words don't mean the same things.

(3) Where they ARE of value is in characterizing the particular Venus expressions - relationship patterns, affections, esthetics, pleasuring, etc. Looked at in this specialized way, they convey quite useful information. (There is also strong inference that Venus-sign can be a key to successful vocation, probably in the sense of "showing what one loves.")

Some of the statistical results can be traced to reflections from adjacent Sun-signs - some stand on their own - I've just listed everything indiscriminantly until a more complete treatment can be prepared.

Venus in Taurus (home)

Post by Jim Eshelman » Mon May 08, 2017 12:43 pm

SUMMARY (Preliminary): Gentle, kind. Feels intensely (moody). Lives in a romantic or fantasy world. Affectionate, devoted, desires tenderness, sympathetic. Eros dominates. Wants to enjoy love & all pleasure from its many forms. Devoted: friendship important. Indulgent, gratifies desires readily. Artistic-aesthetic. Graceful. Avoids harsh, vulgar, violent, painful.

Notebook #93 observations: All are gentle, kindly people.

STATISTICS:
Gauquelin: High for PAINTERS, low for WRITERS (aesthetic, not mental?). High for traits "generous, hard-working." Low for trait "mystical." (Low for trait "sensual," but suspect this is a secondary effect of Sun in Aries.)

SUMMARY (PRELIMINARY): Gentle, kind. Feels intensely (moody). Lives in a romantic or fantasy world. Affectionate, devoted, desires tenderness, sympathetic. Eros dominates. Wants to enjoy love & all pleasure from its many forms. Devoted: friendship important. Indulgent, gratifies desires readily. Artistic-aesthetic. Graceful. Avoids harsh, vulgar, violent, painful.

NOTES:
  1. EROS dominates their awareness. (Flirtatious, promiscuous, romantically fickle, moody.)
  2. Intense feeling life (including serious glum periods). [NB - On reconsideration, I still think this is true - but the people aren't known for it. They tend to give the reverse impression.]
  3. Affectionate, devoted, desire for tenderness. Sympathetic. Desire to express and experience tenderness and affection.
  4. FRIENDSHIP is very important concept, and devotion is very present for friends.
  5. Seem to live in a "romantic world" or "fantasy realm" (hysterical/impressionistic perception style?). Gullible?
  6. Want to enjoy loving and get every bit of pleasure from its multiple forms as they can. Indulgent, gratify desires readily. Good-humored.
  7. Simple things in life delight them, as long as they are pleasurable.
  8. Seeking "peace within."
  9. Artistic/aesthetic appreciation and talent. Gracefulness. (STATS: High for Gauquelin painters, though low for writers - aesthetic, not mental.)
  10. Tries to avoid the harsh, vulgar, violent, and painful. (One questionable study shows that this is the least accident prone position of Venus.)

Venus in Gemini

Post by Jim Eshelman » Mon May 08, 2017 1:13 pm

SUMMARY (Preliminary): Playful, fun. Seeks companions especially to share curiosities & explorations (strengthened by partnering with their “other”). Broadly open to sexual opportunities. Interested in unusual, specialized artistic fields; keen awareness of form.

Notebook #93 observations: All are fun.

SUMMARY (PRELIMINARY): Playful, fun. Seeks companions especially to share curiosities & explorations (strengthened by partnering with their “other”). Broadly open to sexual opportunities. Interested in unusual, specialized artistic fields; keen awareness of form.

STATISTICS:
Gauquelin: High for ACTORS. Low for MILITARY MUSICIANS. Extremely high for character trait "courageous." High for traits "mystical, traveler, witty." Low for traits "hardworking, authority."
Other Stats: Most common Venus placement for both U.S. Presidents and Vice Presidents.

NOTES:
  1. PLAYFUL. Play is the main feature of Venus in Gemini. (STATS: Low for trait "hardworking.")
  2. Need someone to fill their "loneliness gaps." "Dualistic" nature ties them to a partner - like a child who doesn't want to be left without a playmate. Acquisitive of people.
  3. Wishing for companions to share their curiosities & explorations. - Ambivalent feelings about pairings (especially in romance).
  4. They "play Venus-games" or seduction games - but aren't always willing to "finish the game." (Almost every example of the women give the feeling you could get them to have sex with virtually no effort - but one is left not entirely believing it.)
[NB - The above note was written in my early 20s. Now, in my early 50s, reviewing the same list of women, I would say that they are broadly open to sexual opportunities, but, even when quite young, need to be approached with a little more maturity than a young man in his early 20s might display. ]
  5. Keen sense of rhythm (love of dancing?).
  6. Interested in unusual and specialized artistic fields. Awareness of form. (?)

Venus in Cancer

Post by Jim Eshelman » Mon May 08, 2017 1:14 pm

SUMMARY (Preliminary): Abundant feeling (heart rules head). Generous with affection, warm, nurturing (touching, holding). Needs to BE or HAVE a mother in relationships. Charming due to sexual charisma; requires adoration; loyal & devoted to friends. Home is an important sanctuary (appreciates luxury).

STATISTICS:
Gauquelin: High for POLITICIANS. Low for ATHLETES. Very high for trait "mystic." High for "combative," low for "nervous."
Other Stats:

NOTES:
  1. Abundant feeling: nurturing, warm, affectionate, sensitive, ardent, loving nature. MATERNAL types.
  2. "Strong urge to lean on somebody" (Ebertin). Many need to have a mother more than to be one.
  3. Oriented to sensory pleasure. Heart can rule head: affections tend to dominate them.
  4. Loyal & devoted to friends. Friendship is extremely important to them.
  5. Can be indiscriminate with generosity and affections.
  6. TOUCH is extremely important to them. Very tactile.
  7. HOME LIFE is important. Needs domestic tranquility. "Domestic types." Appreciates luxury.
  8. Creative.
  9. Need to be adored by mate before satisfied (enjoy being put on a pedestal). Coy.
  10. Celebrities with this have strong sexual charisma which they play effectively - Madonna, Michael Jackson, Arnold Schwarznegger. More broadly, they may base their popularity around the idea of image itself - Coco Chanel.
(Harvested from a discussion in another thread...)
Among the professionals whose birth data etc. were gathered by Michel Gauquelin, Venus in Cancer was extremely common for politicians, and was extremely uncommon for athletes. I suspect the frequency among eminent politicians is related to something I've noticed among celebrities with Venus in Cancer: they tend to have a strong sexual charisma, which they play effectively. (Consider Madonna, Michael Jackson, Arnold Schwarznegger). More broadly, they may base their popularity around the idea of image itself (e.g., Coco Chanel). This same sort of thing would serve a politician well. - When examining the Gauquelin character trait data, Venus in Cancer was very high for the character trait "mystic," and was also high for the trait "combative." Despite the infrequency of eminent athletes with this placement,

STATISTICS:

Other Stats: Low for 59 Sidereal astrologers - much more of a Tropicalist placement in contrast (Eshelman).

NOTES:
  1. Strong inclination to "parent" one's friends - thus introducing an inherent inequality into the relationship.
  2. "Self-surrender" is not easy - it may be something they fear, thus their aloofness.
  3. Daring in romantic adventures when the topic captures their interest, but many older bachelors.
  4. "Shoppers," testing the ground first in romance. (Discrimination attempted in affection.)

Venus in Aries (detriment)

Post by Jim Eshelman » Mon May 08, 2017 1:20 pm

SUMMARY (Preliminary): Quick to arouse passions, affection fires easily. Warm, affectionate, friendly. Pragmatic outlook on love, romance, and sex: Weighs practical considerations before emotional. Expect total focus of companion’s attention. Rarely outwardly affectionate (especially in public). Naturally take on leadership roles.

Notebook #93 observations: They tend to be socially anomalous or isolated (at least a little socially stilted). There is a natural tendency to take on leadership roles (or at least increased responsibility) within social groups and other similar organizations.

STATISTICS:
Gauquelin: Low for MILITARY MUSICIANS and MILITARY (though Sun, Moon, and Mercury in Aries were HIGH). Very high for character traits "devoted, secretive, traveler." High for character trait "warm."
Other Stats: High for 91 world heads of states (Eshelman).

NOTES:
  1. Very practical outlook on love, romance, and sex. Practical considerations are weighed before emotional decisions are made.
  2. Quick to arouse, affection fires easily.
  3. Generally unsure of feelings, thus tending to be withdrawn. Rarely outwardly affectionate to any great degree (especially in public). [NB: For file charts of people I know personally, as friends they are warm, affectionate, friendly. The question remaining to sort from all of the other chart details is whether sexually there is a greater tendency to be more detached, have difficulty with intimacy and trust issues, etc.] [STATS: High for character trait "warm."]
  4. Radiate a distancing quality which tends to keep people at arm's length. (Common for all "Fire" sign Venus placements - something like a "don't tarnish the brass" feel.)
  5. They expect their companions to give them the total focus of attention.
