I don't think SLRs are usually worth travelling for (and never worth it unless you can put something specifically desirable on the angles). A rare one, though, looks so bad that it's worth the effort.

This one seemed severe enough that she's taking the opportunity to go to Denver for the day. East of Denver an hour would be even better, but Denver should nail it. There's still rough stuff (even a couple of new things) but the negatives aren't the most dominant AND they take on a different character in the context of more positive strong angularities and Moon aspects. The one concern is that something will go wrong and she'll get stranded overnight in Salt Lake City, where Saturn is just a few minutes from Ascendant. (It's actually worse than if she didn't travel. See below.)

Yes that would be very unfortunate.
Our family actually got a flat tire in Salt Lake, I remember that I was thrilled because I got to get out of the van and go collect the strange salt that was everywhere around.

They don't let you on a plane without a mask (or a city bus, or inside an Uber, or any other public conveyance). She was one of triple density masks I got us ahead of our Memphis trip and is triple-vaxxed.

It surprisingly cold her this morning (after some days in the 90s and upper 80s). That's mostly because it's ferociously windy, which I hope doesn't delay their takeoff. She boarded a few minutes ago.

She made it through Vegas without a hitch and is now in Denver. The return WILL occur in Denver in the wee hours of tomorrow morning.

She has taken off from Denver, landed in SLC, and taken off from there. So far, no Mercury-Saturn artifacts. (The aspects don't exist in Denver and didn't get picked up in the especially bad SLC location for the hour and a half she was there.) Presuming landing in LA is uneventful, the trip itself accomplished its purpose and the SLR while in Denver (including, as usual, the hours prior to and leading up to its actual occurrence) was quite expressive of the partile angular Venus and its aspects.

Experimenting with my attempt to numerically objectify basic characteristics of these charts, since Marion's current SLR is such a prime example.

The current, worrisome SLR for Los Angeles would have scored this way:
Benefic = 168
Malefic = 386
Change = 202
Spotlight = 241

The chart was correctly identified as malefic - in quite a major way (scores over 300 are rare, and this one approached the maximum possible score of 400). Meanwhile, there wasn't enough benefic juice to cross the 200 "above the line" threshold. - There were indications she was likely to be in the spotlight and that some circumstances would undergo change.

Other metrics with which I'm experimenting that are high are Indignity (254), but at least offset by Dignity being "above the line" at 205. If found useful long-term, this could be summarized as something like, "Your dignity is attacked or wounded, or esteem is lost, but not badly: When everything shakes out, your dignity is intact."

If someone were first learning to read these charts, this would have made clear that it was a worrisome month - one she probably would survive, but not without paying a price.

Relocating it to Denver, though, changed the dynamic - it didn't reverse it at all, but it certainly changed the weight of things:

Benefic = 264
Malefic = 379
Change = 239
Spotlight = 321

Everything is in play! It is still more malefic than benefic (a very high malefic number) but with a clearly strong benefic signature as well. Whereas the LA example is, "This is really bad, but you probably get out with your neck intact," the Denver example is, "This is really bad but you have some real guardian angels on your side!" Very much in the spotlight, with circumstances very much in motion and subject to change. The biggest difference between LA and Denver isn't the slight reduction in the malefic score but the big jump in the benefic score.

In LA, malefic is very high, benefic is low, and malefic is 230% of the benefic score (more than twice as strong). In Denver, malefic is very high yet benefic is high, with malefic score being 144% of the benefic score, or not quite one and a half times as high.

In Denver, almost every dynamic I'm measuring (including the experimental ones) is very high, due to the strong angularity of so many factors. Dignity at 276 nearly ties Indignity at 285. Vulnerability is 287, Shifting Conditions is a very high 311, Sex is 337, Security Needs is 313, and so on. Eventually, I think something useful has to come out of this quantification method.

However, Philadelphia looked a lot better, and it's only an hour's drive from where her dad and step-mom life in New Jersey - and it's Mother's Day weekend. So, here is the chart she'll actually get (at the Philadelphia airport on the way back).

No foreground aspects. Partile non-fore aspects include Saturn to natal Saturn, Uranus to natal Venus-Neptune, and her natal Sun-Pluto square (closer mundo than usual).

One thing that really intrigues me is that the LA chart (that she'll come back to) has strong father symbolism and, though she's ending up with a more benefic month, the first in-person visit to her father in a few years (due to their relocation + Covid etc.) goes with the package.

An interesting pattern appears (not an entirely nice one) that we rarely get to study in return charts. Note these azimuth figures (against the detail of transiting Jupiter square them all from its close presence on the western horizon). These are measured against the Antivertex (E) and Vertex (W) ends of the PV where it intersects the horizon.

The reports that are in development will have more concrete information (and still the limits of computer-generated reports).

But, in decades of seeing astrology clients, while I like to get to nitty-gritty, they mostly want to know if it will be a good month or a bad month, and a couple of general details and maybe a specific question answered here and there, so that's the first priority of the report: Filter good months from bad months, and filter "big deal" months from "no big deal" months. As attention spans have narrowed, it's increasingly hard to get people to listen too many sentences past that. (Plus, I still hope to get Mike to eventually pick up phone app programming and adapt all this to a pinwheel of pretty icons and multi-colored bar graphs since those seem to be what attracts 90% of the attention of Gen Z.)

The second sentence in the quote above is an experiment. It's based on there being no natal planets foreground - only transiting planets. The sentence (and a complementary one for when only natal planets are foreground) is an experiment to see if we can draw a reasonable distinction from that one fact alone.

In a full report, this "headline," or "get the gist of the month in the first three or four lines," would be followed by short paragraphs on the closest foreground planets and the foreground aspects. That's the easy part. The intro "tell them what you want to make sure they walk away with in the first 15 seconds" is the hard part.

The second sentence above, translated, means (1) there are only transiting planets foreground, so it seems as if everything is coming from the outside toward you with nothing originating from you, but (2) {bonk} it anyway, when that's true then this just acts like a new birth chart for two to four weeks, so you should interpret it that way, also.

This would go on to note (and individually interpret) that the "players" are natal Mars supported by transiting Uranus and Pluto and natal Sun and Saturn, and that the chart's dynamic expression is transiting Pluto square natal Pluto and transiting Uranus conjunct natal Mars (with acknowledgement of natal Sun-Saturn).

It's all crude and may remain that way, at least for a long time. The most important thing to make it mass-market accessible is to get those opening sentences right (especially on isolating good vs. bad period and big deal vs. not a big deal period where obvious).
