Rolling Mill Mine disaster

Post by Jim Eshelman » Sun Aug 26, 2018 2:43 pm

July 10, 1902, approximately 11:00 AM, near Johnstown, PA 40N19'48'', 78W55'37''

A firedamp (methane gas) explosion in the Rolling Mill Mine resulted in the deaths of 112 miners. Seven deaths were from the explosion itself, and the rest from asphyxiation by post-explosion gases.
