LONG-TERM (Solar Ingresses)
For the United States, the 12 months beginning January 14, 2021 are more severe than 2020. A striking difference is that 2021 will be a year of action, whereas 2020 was more a year of paralysis. Therefore, 2021's threats will be more actively violent and conflictual. Saturn in Capricorn continues to define the time. Pluto enters Capricorn until 2039. Autonomous survival and isolative self-sufficiency are hallmarks of the post-COVID world ahead of us.

In the 2021 Capsolar, two partile aspects have the loudest voices.

MARS squares SATURN (0°34') with Mars 0°29' and Saturn 0°18' from an angle. Harsh, hateful, hurtful, and destructive, Mars-Saturn incites many forms of destruction and hardship: Deadly violence, fires and explosions, and financial crises are among the kinds of event it accompanies. In an annual chart, its psychological impact is worse: Mars-Saturn fosters hate and the conflict that arises from feeling powerless, shamed, and diminished. In the United States, 2021 will feel like our nation is filled with primitives competing for basic survival amidst widespread hardship.

Nearly as close (but not as closely angular) is JUPITER square URANUS (0°42'). This aspect does not usually occur for disasters (except for floods). Jupiter-Uranus is 2021's aspect of recovery and salvation through scientific advances and social revolution. This broadly, boldly liberal combination suggests that we have either a new broadly liberal government or a renewal of liberal political activism in the streets.

Jupiter-Uranus means ideological rebellion (both peaceful and violent) and remapping the larger social contract in which liberal social and political agendas demand wider horizons, expanded opportunities, civil liberties, and enhanced diversity. Inventiveness, new technology and tech vision, futurism, and “good science” engage popular imagination. At its best, it signifies collective optimism and anticipation of good change amidst terrible conditions.

These two dynamics (Mars-Saturn and Jupiter-Uranus) compete throughout 2021, but not in mutually neutralizing isometric tension: 2021 will be a year of activity and activism, though rarely gentle or well-behaved. Mars conjoins Uranus: For the U.S., they are foreground and Moon squares Uranus and Mars mundanely. Mars-Uranus is explosive: If physical bombs aren't detonating then psychological "bombshells" are exploding. It means surprise attack and sudden action, the "lightning war" of blitzkrieg. Moon-Uranus promises swiftly changing circumstances that require rapid adaptation and response. Moon-Mars is most worrisome: Besides its broad sense of emergency and typical Mars expressions of violence, fire, disaster, and damage, it is an aspect of assassination and other severe crises for a nation's leaders. The new president faces unusually severe challenges.

Mars square Jupiter (2°13') suggests economic crisis, especially from aggressive spending. In fact, Jupiter aspects to Mars and Saturn threaten markets just as Pluto, Saturn, and Jupiter in Capricorn show shifting conditions in banking and institutional economic management. This may not be terrible: We surely need to consume significant resources for economic recovery. Also, this year of action includes spinning up the wheels of industry once more: Mars-Jupiter is consistent with economic expansion (greater industry and productivity), as Jupiter-Saturn is consistent with structural investment. Rebuilding infrastructure at many levels is a priority.

Mars-Jupiter is stormy (including destructive weather), but its essential momentum is forward and expansive with an enterprising spirit. I expect it to be useful to recovery. Post-pandemic, I anticipate an era of opportunity for new entrepreneurs and a renewal of entrepreneurial spirit in the country (after so many businesses have collapsed to create a vacuum, and their former principals have lost so heavily: capital investment in new business will be readily available). If that does not occur in 2021, at least the cultural and economic reorganization making it possible will be underway. (A wide Mercury-Jupiter mundane conjunction is optimistic in this regard.)

KEEP YOUR EYES ON RUSSIA THIS YEAR. Moscow's ingresses have been vague for several years: This year, Moscow has the same two aspects most closely foreground as Washington. However, Jupiter-Uranus is closer, Mars-Saturn second closest. If we find ourselves in direct competition or conflict, Moscow has the advantage over Washington and may be part of the "surprise attack" threat Washington's Capsolar shows.

MEDIUM-TERM (The Bridge)

Feb 9-13: Neptune Jupiter Mars. Neptune squares CanQ Moon all month, Jupiter crosses Capsolar Descendant until 2/19, and Mars squares either Capsolar or CapQ Moon through 2/13. This continues from last month. These planets portray great restlessness, stormy weather (meteorologically and psychologically), and poor judgment. Neptune shows unrealistic, disproportionate reactions; Jupiter conveys the feeling that life-conditions are improving; and Mars brings harm and widespread risk to well-being, as we enter another phase of hasty, premature confidence and unreasoned optimism that circumstances are safe. Excess causes new problems. Genuine threat is immoderately ignored. Ideological evangelism runs strong, people leverage collective action for causes of social idealism, and market speculation runs a little wild.

Feb 14-19: Neptune Jupiter. Neptune continues to square CanQ Moon. Jupiter continues to conjoin Capsolar Descendant, mixing unrealistic, disproportionate reactions with a feeling that life-conditions are improving. Immediate threats have backed off, encouraging unrealistic optimism. People need hope and faith that things will get better: This week lets them feel this way. Other Jupiter-Neptune themes prevail, including social and collective action, belief-driven decisions, unreasoned speculation, immoderation, and entertainment.

Feb 20-27: Neptune. Neptune continues to square CanQ Moon. Heightened optimism backs off for a week, allowing uncertainty, insecurity, and trepidation to rise. Extreme waves of emotional reaction continue world-wide, the herd-mind is aroused, and panic may prevail. People who over-stretched on the stock market may take this week to doubt their judgement and back out.

Feb 27 to Mar 8. Neptune Jupiter. Neptune continues to square CanQ Moon. Jupiter now squares Capsolar Moon. Conditions will be similar to February 14-19 but now worldwide. Also, events now reflect the peculiar conditions of Moon-Jupiter rather than the more general Jupiter angular conditions of earlier this month: A period of growing prosperity and pride, diplomacy and dignity prevailing, a sense of well-being for family and community, but possible intensification of national pride stretching to nationalism. There could well be a positive breakthrough regarding the pandemic, inspiring worldwide hope.

Mars is in Aries through 2/23, then enters Taurus. Based on earlier passes, the main headlines during Mars in Aries periods center on fires, combat, authoritarianism, protests against continuing police violence, and enhanced polarization. We've gathered no historic records on Mars in Taurus but suspect that conditions will turn from conflict to peace, with greater focus on life, comfort, and Eros. Perhaps minds turn worldwide more to anticipation of life and fruitfulness. -- Summaries of longer-term trends from outer planet sign transits are here.[/color]

SHORT-TERM (Lunar Ingresses)

Caplunar (Feb 9)
Effective February 9 to March 8, especially the first week, February 9-16. In most respects, this is a good, positive, upbeat period: Venus (MC 2°41') and Uranus (square MC 1°53') are most angular, with Venus conjunct Jupiter (1°58'). Celebrations, victories, festivities, happiness, love, and world-witnessed weddings and births set the tone, with unusual protection against tragedy. Markets thrive (Jupiter on MC through NYC). With these celebrations come mourning and remembrances (Venus-Saturn conjunction, their midpoint on MC; Moon-Pluto conjunct 0°27').

Within this fundamentally positive time, political polarization and tension between safety vs. freedom intensifies (Saturn-Uranus square 0°43'), demanding a pragmatic response to harsh reality. Deals are struck, tradeoffs of what costs vs. gains, especially in politics and economics (Jupiter/Saturn on MC 0°40') but, perhaps, more widely across the social fabric.

Arilunar (Feb 16)
Effective February 16-23. Anxiety spikes this week. Worldwide, Moon squares Pluto (0°40'). For Washington, Moon also squares Saturn (0°28' mundo) and Neptune squares Midheaven (0°51'), aspects of grief, and mournful wailing distinctive to the United States. With Sun moderately angular (MC 3°47'), national leadership is at the center of these conditions - the president, another national centerpiece, or leadership per se - either as the object of concern or, more likely, where the spotlight is turned for solutions.

Canlunar (Feb 23)
Effective February 23 to March 8. Saturn-Uranus is the strongest voice of the week (square 0°31', Uranus WP 1°21', Saturn IC 4°), accompanied by Mercury themes. Its most likely expressions are the tension between freedom and containment (e.g., an intensification of freedom vs. safety COVID-19 restlessness), political polarization (liberal-conservative, change vs. status quo), and the confrontation of new, unhappy truths. Leadership needs to think outside of stereotypes. Technology seems not to be our friend. The strongest aspects are consistent with transportation disasters or crises, especially involving air travel.

Liblunar (Mar 2)
The Liblunar is dormant.

The Biden Report

Post by Jim Eshelman » Sat Nov 14, 2020 12:47 pm

SIDEREAL LUNAR RETURN (Jan 20)
Effective Jan 19 to Feb 17. In Washington, Joe Biden is the talk of the town, the hub of activity in this chart for the evening of Inauguration Day. This return is one of the main signs that he has won the presidency. However, the chart is terribly threatening. It seems the Secret Service will have to work harder. Given the extreme threat in this chart, the fact that Senator Harris' chart shows great personal uplifting, plus the difficult mundane charts, we are justified in being concerned about Biden's well-being. (On the other hand, taking on responsibility for the nation's terrible condition is threat and burden enough for a whole basket full of malefics.)

Natal Moon is 1°01' from Midheaven: He is the center of attention. Transiting Saturn and Sun are conjunct, square Midheaven, their midpoint 0°12' from the angle. Sun and Saturn also square natal Moon. Natal Mars squares Ascendant, while transiting Mars (partile conjunct Uranus) is less than 4° from MC. Mars conjoins his Moon. These aspects signal threat. Mars conjunct Uranus (only 0°03' wide) often means surprise attack or an accident, though it can also mean great task-oriented energy and productivity.

Further showing an occasion of exaltation, and perhaps giving ultimate protection, natal Jupiter is on Eastpoint (1°28') and transiting Jupiter about 5° from Descendant.

Over a dozen other aspects exist - all combinations of Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Pluto, plus Mercury squaring Mars-Uranus. It probably isn't necessary to detail the possibilities. The main message is that he is the exalted centerpiece of the occasion and exposed to great threat - which could, of course, simply be the difficult conditions of the country he now begins to run.

SIDEREAL DEMI-LUNAR RETURN (Feb 3)
Effective Feb 3-17. This is a difficult two weeks, though likely with a good measure of joy. The strongest angularity is natal Saturn 0°43' from Ascendant. If Biden came to harm under the SLR, this Saturn is a poor sign for his well-being; however, the foreground aspects are upbeat and both Suns are (barely) angular, so let us presume his health is fine.

When natal Saturn is closely angular, survival and managerial instincts are brought to the fore. Emphasis is on one's own demands and self-expectations: He drives himself, seeing more work than seems manageable and perhaps privately indulging self-doubt or a sense of his own shortcomings.

But the foreground aspects suggest spring in his step and that he finds means of refreshment. Sun mundanely squares natal Venus-Uranus and his natal Sun-Venus conjunction is foreground. These show much enthusiasm. A 0°02' Moon-Uranus mundane opposition plus transiting Venus square natal Moon (0°37') add pleasure, even romance. Though background, Mars opposes natal Mars (0°20') which, if it is not part of a health crisis, shows him energetically engaged with his opponents.

SIDEREAL LUNAR RETURN (Feb 17)
Effective Feb 16 to Mar 16. Provided President Biden is in Washington, this is one of his most frustrating months. In both the SLR and Demi-SLR are marks of weakness, frustration, and perhaps convalescence. In the SLR no transiting planets are foreground; among natal planets, he has Neptune (MC -2°17') and Saturn (Dsc +3°15') providing nearly all information for the month. These effects are deepened by transiting Saturn square Moon within 1° mundanely.

He has better SLRs in the spring (quite excellent ones) - but this one is quite demoralizing. Under natal Saturn-Neptune, mental and emotional states become dark and troubling, with worry, anxiety, fear, dread, grief, depression, and distrust as common expressions. One may withdraw into seclusion or asylum. Draining (even disabling) health conditions can sap strength and undercut will. Inner demons have their day.

While this diminishment is forefront for the month, background patterns are mostly positive. Though background, within a 1° orb transiting Sun squares natal Sun-Venus, transiting Jupiter squares natal Mars, and transiting Pluto opposes natal Jupiter while in mundo Jupiter opposes natal Pluto. Only Mars opposite natal Mercury (0°27' mundo) seems unpleasant, probably making him the target of criticism and attacks.

But, generally, continuing objective backdrop circumstances seem positive despite the fact that the immediate headlines of his life are dark and troubling.

SIDEREAL DEMI-LUNAR RETURN (Mar 2)
Effective Mar 1-16. Natal Neptune is 6°08' before Ascendant; transiting Neptune is 5°39' past Descendant; and their midpoint is 0°15' from the horizon. That's it. The demi-lunar, especially in the context of the full SLR, shows weakness, attack, and possible (probable?) convalescence if it occurs while he is in or near Washington. If his reported birthtime is exactly right, then this is also the time that transiting Neptune crosses natal IC.

Background partile aspects are more difficult than in the full SLR. Pluto still opposes his Jupiter (0°09'), which signifies a great shift in his status and usually is for the better; but transiting Mars opposes his Sun-Venus within 1°, suggesting attack and strained relationships. The transiting Saturn-Uranus square aspects Biden's natal Pluto, suggesting struggles against great difficulties and perhaps coming to the conclusion to break with precedent and form to overcome them.

Coming out the other side of this, he will be greeted by the March 16 SLR with Jupiter on Midheaven.

Geographic areas centered on map lines have a roughly 150-200 mile leeway (3°) for strong effects. For these mappings of planetary energies, see standard interpretations in Chapter 8 of Sidereal Mundane Astrology. (A link to the free current edition can always be found near the top of the Publications sub-forum.) Readers may wish to consider all planet lines and intersections against the standard interpretations.

Transits to Capsolar Planets

Post by Jim Eshelman » Sat Nov 14, 2020 12:49 pm

Transits to Capsolar planets are important identifiers for locales where the 'natal' planet was angular in the Capsolar, or where it spins to a CapQ angle at the time of the aspect.

Outer planet sign transits

Post by Jim Eshelman » Sat Nov 14, 2020 12:49 pm

Pluto in Capricorn (2021-2038)
viewtopic.php?f=34&t=2475&p=33906#p33904
Harsher, struggling, dystopian: people doubt they will regain guarantees of safety or security from violence, economic crisis, or cultural breakdown. Autonomous self-sufficiency, struggle for survival. Need to preserve and restore survivability of the planet. Shortages of land, secure living space, and privacy (territorial conflicts). Hunger and dwelling insecurity. People determining anew how they want to be governed. Control vs. being controlled. Increased social isolation and focus on survivalism (anticipating breakdown of society or survivability of the world with depleting stability and resources). Intensified tensions between individual survival vs. connected wider community, and between uplifted and controlling classes vs. the debased and controlled classes. Breakdown of old structures and outmoded patterns. Bedrock financial institutions are challenged and reassessed. New economies emerge, including a structural reconceiving of work, jobs, employment, and earnings. Anything father-themed comes under attacked (and retaliates). Ancient grievances and resentments renewed. Society's relationship to aging and the aged will necessarily change. Revolution in pharmacology.

Neptune in Aquarius (2009-2023)
Suppressed or diffused social progressiveness, squashed rebellions, deranged concepts of liberty, all setting the stage for a future conflict or breakthrough after the transit is over. Imagined new vistas and possibilities without current capacity to reach or manage them. Roused socialist-leaning liberalism. Failure of universalism, futurism, or true enlightenment to flourish. Shortage of dispassionate clarity, fostered ignorance.

This transit reflects living in a time when most people feel like we are living in a science fiction wonderland, "imagining the inconceivable." Change happens so fast, technical progress accelerating far beyond any vision prior generations had to the 21st century (provided it doesn't involve transportation). One aspect of this is increased complexity with life changing faster than neurology can grasp, manage, and keep up. It has fostered technological surveillance and loss of privacy.

Uranus in Aries (2017-2025)
A volatile time politically. Issues of economics, government, and accelerated armament. Great challenges to the stability of existing alliances: Acute polarization splits former allies (individuals, social groups, or nations) along new axes. Widespread dissatisfaction fuels repudiation of historic closely held views and values. Each such era, while people are passing through it, feels like a transitions between a concluding old cycle and an opening new cycle.

An unyielding, unremitting sense of emergency exists, then autocratic governance increases. Extraordinary autocratic power is yielded (voluntarily granted) to national leaders, who acquire increasing dominion of economic and social issues. Armament, safety, going one's way alone without the encumbrances of alliances... these win out over the demand for personal liberty and social equality. The masses seem more comfortable with an authoritarian father figure to "make everything OK." Absent a state of war, there me be a suspension of checks and balances on autocracy normal to martial law.

Increased polarization and struggle between opposing extremes - each historic period has its own example, whether it be arising fascism vs. socialism (or political elements that, if more extreme, would have emerged as overtly fascist or socialist, extremism of right vs. left), opposing views on slavery, Catholic vs. Protestant wars, etc. Economics (especially trade) are unstable, in a precarious balance. Economics policies become more nationalistic and autistic, increasingly protective, to defend against trade inequities and competition imbalances. Extreme unrest in economically hurting populations.

Saturn in Capricorn (Jan 2020 - Jan 2023)
Individual and political struggles for survival, autonomy, and self-sufficiency. Land & space: Shortages of land and secure space, redefining boundaries; territorial acquisitions and annexations, mineral rights, mining conflicts; walls, embargoes, spatial segregation, splitting historically separate countries into autonomous nations. Earth & water crises: Ecological concerns regarding climate change; land- and water-based retaliations by the Earth against destabilizing climate change; volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, no-warning fire outbreaks; water and land rights and conservation. Hunger, food-security, and dwelling issues including crop failures and famine; further crumbling of farming as a viable livelihood; hunger may be weaponized (or may be addressed aggressively). Earth-mindful rebellion religions thrive, including renewal and empowerment of paganism. Major finance developments: Vast financial institutional restructuring and management, especially favoring capitalism. Changes in how we collectively control money and commerce including bedrock foundations, controls, and financial restructuring; institutions aimed at money security are created or strengthened; long-standing economic hardship and social disenfranchisement boil over. Fear: Focus on how we manage and respond to it. Disabilities and misfortune draw focus: "Inferiority" (so-called) more visible; disability and genetic bigotry; widespread civil liberties conflicts and civil rights resistance activism. Relief from the arts and laughter.
