LONG-TERM (Solar Ingresses)
2021 Capsolar.jpg
For the United States, the 12 months beginning January 14, 2021 are more severe than 2020. A striking difference is that 2021 will be a year of action, whereas 2020 was more a year of paralysis. Therefore, 2021's threats will be more actively violent and conflictual. Saturn in Capricorn continues to define the time. Pluto enters Capricorn until 2039. Autonomous survival and isolative self-sufficiency are hallmarks of the post-COVID world.

In the 2021 Capsolar, two partile aspects have the loudest voices.

MARS squares SATURN (0°34') with Mars 0°29' and Saturn 0°18' from an angle. Harsh, hateful, hurtful, and destructive, Mars-Saturn incites many forms of destruction and hardship: Deadly violence, fires and explosions, and financial crises are among the kinds of event it accompanies. In an annual chart, its psychological impact is worse: Mars-Saturn fosters hate and the conflict that arises from feeling powerless, shamed, and diminished. In the United States, 2021 will feel like our nation is filled with primitives competing for basic survival amidst widespread hardship.

Nearly as close (but not as closely angular) is JUPITER square URANUS (0°42'). This aspect does not usually occur for disasters (except for floods).Jupiter-Uranus is 2021's aspect of recovery and salvation through scientific advances and social revolution. This broadly, boldly liberal combination does not mean that we have a new broadly liberal administration: It might mean that, or we might have a replay of 2017 when the incoming Trump administration triggered a renewal of in the street liberal political activism not seen in 50 years.

Jupiter-Uranus means ideological rebellion (both peaceful and violent) and remapping the larger social contract in which liberal social and political agendas demand wider horizons, expanded opportunities, civil liberties, and enhanced diversity. Inventiveness, new technology and tech vision, futurism, and “good science” engage popular imagination. At its best, it signifies collective optimism and anticipation of good change amidst terrible conditions.

These two dynamics compete throughout 2021, but not in mutually neutralizing isometric tension: 2021 will be a year of activity and activism, though rarely gentle or well-behaved. Mars conjoins Uranus: For the U.S., they are foreground and Moon squares Uranus (1°10') and Mars (2°27') mundanely. Mars-Uranus is explosive: If physical bombs aren't detonating then psychological "bombshells" are exploding. It means surprise attack and sudden action, the "lightning war" of blitzkrieg. Moon-Uranus promises swiftly changing circumstances that require rapid adaptation and response. Moon-Mars is most worrisome: Besides its broad sense of emergency and typical Mars expressions of violence, fire, disaster, and damage, it is an aspect of assassination and other severe crises for a nation's leaders. Whoever sits in the Oval Office in 2021 will have unusually severe challenges.

Mars squares Jupiter (2°13') suggests economic crisis, especially from aggressive spending. In fact, Jupiter aspects to Mars and Saturn threaten markets (as Pluto, Saturn, and Jupiter in Capricorn show shifting conditions in banking and institutional economic management). This may not be terrible: We surely need to consume significant resources for economic recovery. Also, this year of action includes spinning up the wheels of industry once more: Mars-Jupiter is consistent with economic expansion (greater industry and productivity), as Jupiter-Saturn is consistent with structural investment. Rebuilding infrastructure at many levels is a priority.

Mars-Jupiter is stormy (includi8ngh destructive weather), but its essential momentum is forward and expansive with an enterprising spirit. I expect it to be useful to recovery. Post-pandemic, I anticipate an era of opportunity for new entrepreneurs and a renewal of entrepreneurial spirit in the country (after so many businesses have collapsed to create a vacuum, and their former principals have lost so heavily: capital investment in new business will be readily available). If that does not occur in 2021, at least the cultural and economic reorganization making it possible will be well underway. (A wide Mercury-Jupiter mundane conjunction is optimistic in this regard.)

KEEP YOUR EYES ON RUSSIA THIS YEAR. Moscow's ingresses have been vague for several years: This year, Moscow has the same two aspects most closely foreground as Washington. However, Jupiter-Uranus is closer, Mars-Saturn second closest. If we find ourselves in direct competition or conflict, Moscow has the advantage over Washington and may be part of the "surprise attack" threat Washington's Capsolar shows.

MEDIUM-TERM (The Bridge)
  • Jan 14-17: Saturn Mars.
  • Jan 18-19: Saturn.
  • Jan 20-29: Neptune Saturn.
  • Jan 20-27: Neptune.
  • Jan 28-Feb 1: Neptune Mars.
  • Feb 2-4: Neptune Jupiter Mars.
  • Feb 5-7: Neptune Jupiter.
  • Feb 8-9: Neptune Jupiter Mars.
Interpret these by the standard interpretations for these planet combinations. Unusually harsh combinations of malefics dominate most of the month. While the Mars-Saturn, Saturn-Neptune, and Mars-Neptune periods are surely the worst, it's not clear that Jupiter's involvement improves conditions; it may, or it may only describe the context and conditions of the Neptune and Mars-Neptune events. Saturn squares Capsolar MC until 1/17 (with Mars overlapping the first few days), then Neptune begins squaring CanQ Moon worldwide. Jupiter crosses Capsolar Descendant as Mars crosses another Capsolar angle then squares Capsolar Moon.

Mars is in Aries all month. During its September Aries transit, news was dominated by fires, election combat, authoritarianism, riots (more peaceful than not) against continuing police violence, and enhanced polarization, so we likely will now experience something similar. Also, Pluto enters Capricorn January 26 (remaining until August 9). -- Summaries of longer-term trends from outer planet sign transits are here.

SHORT-TERM (Lunar Ingresses)

Liblunar (Jan 6)
20210116 LibLu.jpg
The Liblunar covers an entire month, January 6 to February 3 since the following Caplunar, Arilunar, and Canlunar are dormant.

Jupiter (0°20' from Westpoint) squares Uranus (2°34' from Midheaven). Jupiter also conjoins Saturn (1°39' mundo), though Saturn is only widely angular. These portray a time of much change and reformulation with a clear bottom line that things are getting better: It is a month of optimism, hope, and active engagement of powers.

This chart overflows with progressive social and political movement. This does not, however, mean that they have won the election or the day: We saw the same in 2017's Capsolar where the meaning was that the political left, having been shockingly trounced in the election, rallied with fervor it had not shown in half a century. (Moon square Jupiter, 1°28' mundo, is typical of civil rights moving forward, probably by judicial or activist means.)

Jupiter squares a non-foreground Mars, conjoins a foreground Saturn, and squares a foreground Uranus. Despite overall optimism, I'm not sure the stock market performs well in January. Also, there are conflicts: Moon squares Saturn and Pluto. Perhaps this is the disease still having its way, or perhaps it is hardship caused by social violence by whoever lost most in the election.

Caplunar (Jan 13)
The Caplunar is dormant. Moon conjoins Sun and Pluto (effective for the four weeks following). Among other things, this places focus on the president and on cyclical phenomena such as the stock market.

Mars squares Saturn within 0°03'. This has no practical significance in Washington (where, in any case, the new Capsolar has this aspect exactly angular). However, Mars-Saturn is exactly angular in other parts of the planet where its effect will be severe and probably deadly. These include: the American west (either side of the Rockies), the India-Pakistan border, westmost Africa and western Europe (Spain near Madrid, France near Paris, western Germany, and directly through Stockholm), Japan near Sapporo, Iran).
  • 1/15: CapQ MC on Capsolar Mars, sq. Saturn.
  • 1/16: CapQ MC on t Mars.
  • 1/17-18: CapQ MC on s/t Uranus, sq. Jupiter.
  • 1/19: CapQ WP on Capsolar Saturn.
Arilunar (Jan 20)
The Arilunar is dormant. Moon again squares Pluto (0°12').
  • 1/20: CapQ WP on t Saturn.
  • 1/21: CapQ Dsc on Capsolar Moon. CanQ MC on Cansolar Mercury.
  • 1/22: CapQ WP on Capsolar Jupiter.
  • 1/24: CapQ WP on t Jupiter [t Mars-Jupiter sq.]. CanQ WP on Cansolar Mars.
  • 1/26: CanQ MC sq. Cansolar Mars.
Canlunar (Jan 27)
The Canlunar is dormant. Moon conjoins Pluto, which has entered Capricorn by 0°03'; it also opposes Venus (0°48' mundo). Venus-Neptune themes supplement the root message of the Liblunar.
  • 1/27: CanQ Dsc on Cansolar Mars.
  • 1/29: CapQ MC sq. Capsolar Moon.
Liblunar (Feb 3)
The Liblunar covers February 3-9. Mars sets (1°08'), Sun squares Ascendant (1°27'), and Sun squares Mars (0°52'). Sun also squares Uranus (0°39' mundo). The week is fiery and violent with greater aggression and willingness to be combative. This seems volitional, not accidental: It may be aimed directly at the president or the government in general, but appears, instead, to be their initiative and affirmative action.

These aspects plus a close Mercury-Mars square and event the wide Sun-Jupiter conjunction are consistent with war. War seems unlikely during a worldwide pandemic, but it's worth mentioning that the lineup of aspects has war as one of its possibilities. Moon's aspects to Venus and Pluto show irrevocable changes in relationships, whether between nations or through the destruction of community and loss of life.

Otherwise, we have warring words, aggressive debate, laced with the priority of special interests. The main events, in part, involve people with money and power taking action to get more money and power.
  • 2/7: Cansolar IC on Cansolar Jupiter.

Trump Watch

Post by Jim Eshelman » Thu Nov 21, 2019 7:48 pm

SIDEREAL LUNAR RETURN (Jan 10)
Jan 9 to Feb 7. For Washington, this features transiting Uranus 6°35' past Midheaven and natal Mars 6°53' before Ascendant, both weakly angular and therefore saying almost nothing - especially nothing that we don't see in Trump every fortnight. Things are changing, surprising, and unstable, and Trump is aggressive, attacking, and ungracious. He may be more restless, abrupt, risk-taking, and forcing issues.

At best, he is uncooperative. At worst, he tries to do as much damage as possible on the way out the door. Overall, though, I don't think this chart is a big deal if it occurs while he is in Washington.

SIDEREAL DEMI-LUNAR RETURN (Jan 24)
Jan 23 to Feb 7. Again, no planets are closely foreground for Washington. Four planets that are widely foreground organize as two aspects: Transiting Venus squares natal Jupiter (1°21' mundo), which is warm, congenial, social, comfortable, relaxing, with pleasure from food, festivities, and friends. His natal Mercury-Neptune square (tightened to 1°38' mundo) bringing forth many familiar Trump traits including (for example) telling tell tales and cutting deals.

Wherever he is, if it's in the Eastern U.S., he's probably feeling good about things. Understanding that this might be wishful thinking, it looks to me like he's relaxing on vacation.

Support aspects show a backdrop of disappointments. Partile but background, Neptune squares his Moon and transiting Sun and Saturn are conjunct. These join the ongoing major transits of Neptune to Uranus and Pluto to Saturn.

SIDEREAL LUNAR RETURN (Feb 7)
Feb 8 to Mar 6. After two weeks of probable relaxation, Donald Trump is back in the spotlight and breaks forth with big news - if he is in or around Washington.

His natal Sun-Moon opposition is across the Eastpoint axis (partile) with transiting Neptune on IC (2°). Neptune also squares his Moon. What can thrive under this is Trump the TV character, the performer, the entertainer. With the great strength of his luminaries, this probably will prevail. However, this is also an example of the slow psyche-eroding encroachment of Neptune to aspect his luminaries. Neptune to Moon enhances his vulnerabilities.

I believe he will be solidly in the headlines because of the 0°00' Sun-Mercury mundane conjunction. Support aspects (partile, non-foreground) convey excitement, such as Sun, Venus, and Mercury square Uranus (a mix of ecliptical and mundane aspects). Other support aspects show shifting relationships and life-conditions (Pluto-to-Venus, Neptune-to-Uranus, Saturn-Uranus, Jupiter-to-Pluto, and Venus-Saturn).

The Biden Report

Post by Jim Eshelman » Sun Jul 26, 2020 12:27 pm

SIDEREAL LUNAR RETURN (Dec 24)
Dec 23 to Jan 20. Natal Pluto closely conjoins Descendant (1°43'). When closely angular, it means that events of the period fundamentally change one's life in some way. With natal Uranus and Saturn also foreground (widely), circumstances are in flux.

Most distinctive, transiting Venus opposes natal Saturn (0°09'). In combination with the closely angular natal Pluto, this is emotionally somber and implies loss. Don't confuse it with transiting Saturn to natal Venus (which tends to hurt or constrain Venus life-areas) or with transiting Venus aspecting transiting Saturn. Venus to Saturn brings solace to wounds but also wrestling with one's inadequacies, needing to hold close to one's shadow emotions, and often resisting or withdrawing from others' help. If he is President Elect, this is, perhaps, a Gethsemane moment; if he is not, then he is likely coming to terms with his failure.

Venus-to-Saturn transits are among the most common for the inauguration of first-time presidents (less common for the re-inauguration of incumbents). In contrast, no president has ever been inaugurated with a Venus transit to natal Jupiter. If he has been elected, then it is a somber time of taking up his duty among horrible conditions.

We have every reason to to expect that his life is changed forever this month, his past placed solidly behind him. For Wilmington, two mundane aspects are stunningly expressive: transiting Pluto squares natal Sun (0°05' mundo) and transiting Uranus conjoins natal Moon (0°36' mundo). Their implications of permanent change are inescapable.

Other non-foreground partile aspects describe a mix of backdrop feelings and conditions. Sun squares natal Neptune (0°40', doubts and uncertainties). Transiting Jupiter conjoins transiting Saturn (0°19') but also squares natal Moon (0°57', a bright blessing). Pluto opposes natal Jupiter (0°46' mundo), permanently altering his status, dignity and life-state. A transiting Mars-Pluto square (0°22') is tense and explosive.

SIDEREAL DEMI-LUNAR RETURN (Jan 7)
Jan 6 to Jan 20. Transiting Sun rises (0°53'). Transiting Jupiter is on Eastpoint (0°53'). Natal Pluto squares Midheaven (1°43'). This Demi-SLR, coming into force the same day Vice President Pence will open and Congress will accept the Electoral College's ballots, is a chart of elevated status, office, and nobility. It confirms his victory.

By this point, he probably is in Washington, though this chart is still calculated for nearby Wilmington. Returns hereafter will be cast for Washington, DC.

Closest of the foreground aspects is transiting Pluto to natal Jupiter (0°15' mundo), showing a permanent change in his rank and esteem. More than that, natal Jupiter and Mars form a partile mundane square in this return chart and transiting Pluto aspects both within half a degree: He is a warrior, taking a command role (surprisingly strong for this early). Transiting Saturn and Jupiter (conjoined) square his Moon (Saturn 0°18', Jupiter wider at 2°12'), showing the mixed characteristics of this step. Uranus squares transiting Jupiter and natal Pluto: He is forging his own luck.

SIDEREAL LUNAR RETURN (Jan 20)
Jan 19 to Feb 17. In Washington, it seems Joe Biden is the talk of the town, the hub of activity in this SLR occurring the evening of Inauguration Day. This return is one of the main signs that he likely has won the presidency. However, the chart is terribly threatening. It seems the Secret Service will have to work harder. Given the extreme threat in this chart, the fact that Senator Harris' chart show a mix of great personal uplifting concurrent with deep sorrow or loss, plus the difficult mundane charts, we are justified in being concerned about his well-being.

On the other hand, being sworn in as vice president is plenty uplifting, and taking on responsibility for the nation's terrible condition is threat and burden enough for a whole box of malefics.

Natal Moon is 1°01' from Midheaven, hence the prediction that he is the center of attention. With Moon, though, transiting Saturn (1°13') and Sun (1°28') are conjunct, square Midheaven, their midpoint 0°12' from the angle; Sun-Saturn also squares natal Moon. Natal Mars squares Ascendant (1°15') with transiting Mars (partile conjunct Uranus) less than 4° from MC. Mars also conjoins his Moon.

These are aspects signaling threat, especially for a solar figure. Mars conjunct Uranus, only 0°03', often means "surprise attack" or an accident, though it can also mean great task-oriented energy and productivity.

Further showing an occasion of exaltation, and perhaps giving ultimate protection, natal Jupiter is on Eastpoint (1°28') and transiting Jupiter is about 5° from Descendant.

Over a dozen other aspects exist - all combinations of Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Pluto, plus Mercury squaring Mars-Uranus. (Surely they can protect him from a vehicular accident.) It probably isn't necessary to detail them. The main message is that he is the centerpiece of the occasion and is exposed to great threat - which could, of course, simply be the difficult conditions of the country he now begins to run if, in fact, he is in Washington, DC for the inauguration.

SIDEREAL DEMI-LUNAR RETURN (Feb 3)
Feb 3-17. This is a difficult month, though likely with a good measure of joy in it.

The primary angularity is natal Saturn 0°43' from Ascendant. If Biden came to harm under the last Demi-SLR, then this is a bad sign for his well-being. However, the foreground aspects are quite upbeat and both Suns are (barely) angular, so let us presume his health is fine.

When natal Saturn is closely angular, survival and managerial instincts are brought to the fore. Emphasis is on one's own demands and self-expectations: He drives himself tenaciously, seeing more work than seems manageable, and perhaps indulging self-doubt or a sense of his own inadequacies in private moments.

But the foreground aspects suggest spring in his step and that he finds means of refreshment. Sun mundanely squares his natal Venus-Uranus opposition - Sun-Venus only 0°13' - and his natal partile Sun-Venus conjunction is foreground. This shows much enthusiasm. A 0°02' Moon-Uranus mundane opposition plus transiting Venus square natal Moon (0°37') add pleasure, even romance. Though background, Mars opposes natal Mars (0°20') which, if it is not part of a health crisis, shows him deeply engaged in with his opponents.

Geographic areas centered on map lines have a roughly 150-200 mile leeway (3°) for strong effects. For these mappings of planetary energies, see standard interpretations in Chapter 8 of Sidereal Mundane Astrology. (A link to the free current edition can always be found near the top of the Publications sub-forum.) Readers may wish to consider all planet lines and intersections against the standard interpretations.

Outer planet sign transits

Post by Jim Eshelman » Sat Aug 22, 2020 2:31 pm

Pluto in Capricorn (2021-2038)
(Under development.)

Neptune in Aquarius (2009-2023)
Suppressed or diffused social progressiveness, squashed rebellions, deranged concepts of liberty, all setting the stage for a future conflict or breakthrough after the transit is over. Imagined new vistas and possibilities without current capacity to reach or manage them. Roused socialist-leaning liberalism. Failure of universalism, futurism, or true enlightenment to flourish. Shortage of dispassionate clarity, fostered ignorance.

This transit reflects living in a time when most people feel like we are living in a science fiction wonderland, "imagining the inconceivable." Change happens so fast, technical progress accelerating far beyond any vision prior generations had to the 21st century (provided it doesn't involve transportation). One aspect of this is increased complexity with life changing faster than neurology can grasp, manage, and keep up. It has fostered technological surveillance and loss of privacy.

Uranus in Aries (2017-2025)
A volatile time politically. Issues of economics, government, and accelerated armament. Great challenges to the stability of existing alliances: Acute polarization splits former allies (individuals, social groups, or nations) along new axes. Widespread dissatisfaction fuels repudiation of historic closely held views and values. Each such era, while people are passing through it, feels like a transitions between a concluding old cycle and an opening new cycle.

An unyielding, unremitting sense of emergency exists, then autocratic governance increases. Extraordinary autocratic power is yielded (voluntarily granted) to national leaders, who acquire increasing dominion of economic and social issues. Armament, safety, going one's way alone without the encumbrances of alliances... these win out over the demand for personal liberty and social equality. The masses seem more comfortable with an authoritarian father figure to "make everything OK." Absent a state of war, there me be a suspension of checks and balances on autocracy normal to martial law.

Increased polarization and struggle between opposing extremes - each historic period has its own example, whether it be arising fascism vs. socialism (or political elements that, if more extreme, would have emerged as overtly fascist or socialist, extremism of right vs. left), opposing views on slavery, Catholic vs. Protestant wars, etc. Economics (especially trade) are unstable, in a precarious balance. Economics policies become more nationalistic and autistic, increasingly protective, to defend against trade inequities and competition imbalances. Extreme unrest in economically hurting populations.

Saturn in Capricorn (Jan 2020 - Jan 2023)
Individual and political struggles for survival, autonomy, and self-sufficiency. Land & space: Shortages of land and secure space, redefining boundaries; territorial acquisitions and annexations, mineral rights, mining conflicts; walls, embargoes, spatial segregation, splitting historically separate countries into autonomous nations. Earth & water crises: Ecological concerns regarding climate change; land- and water-based retaliations by the Earth against destabilizing climate change; volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, no-warning fire outbreaks; water and land rights and conservation. Hunger, food-security, and dwelling issues including crop failures and famine; further crumbling of farming as a viable livelihood; hunger may be weaponized (or may be addressed aggressively). Earth-mindful rebellion religions thrive, including renewal and empowerment of paganism. Major finance developments: Vast financial institutional restructuring and management, especially favoring capitalism. Changes in how we collectively control money and commerce including bedrock foundations, controls, and financial restructuring; institutions aimed at money security are created or strengthened; long-standing economic hardship and social disenfranchisement boil over. Fear: Focus on how we manage and respond to it. Disabilities and misfortune draw focus: "Inferiority" (so-called) more visible; disability and genetic bigotry; widespread civil liberties conflicts and civil rights resistance activism. Relief from the arts and laughter.

Done except for adding the maps and finishing Pluto in Capricorn - currently listed as "under development." It will also need an editorial rewrite pass later.
