Nine aboard, all died. The plane was a U.S. National Guard cargo plane from Puerto Rico.

A tweet from the 165th Airlift Wing gives 11:30 AM as the time, but I'm not sure of the time zone. A Fox News report also says "just before 11:30 A.M." Similarly, the Savannah Patch, a local newspaper, gave "around 11:30."

Here is the Wikipedia page now started (not much there at present):

I will trust it's 11:26 am as consistent with the reports above.

Kilauea eruption

Post by Jim Eshelman » Fri May 04, 2018 9:24 am

May 3, 2918, late afternoon, Mount Kilauea, Hawaii (19N25'16", 155W17'12")

Mount Kilauea in Hawaii erupted yesterday. It has been rumbling and gurgling for a while, and yesterday, following a 5.0 magnitude earthquake, it broke open. (By another standard, it has been in continuous eruptuon since 1983.) I have no specific time of the eruption beyond "late Thursday afternoon." Mandatory evacuations removed 1,700 people from the expected path.

14th Malaysian General Election

Post by TheScales_BothWays » Tue May 08, 2018 6:44 pm

Today (May 9th) is Election Day for Malaysians, and therefore also a public holiday. Last time they voted on a weekday was on November 29, 1999, a Monday. Yet, companies have been very cooperative to grant leave to their employees, even Singaporean companies with Malaysian workforce. The parliament was dissolved on April the 7th.

Three major coalitions are contesting:
- Barisan Nasional (BN), the National Front, which is the ruling coalition ever since Malaysia's Independence in 1957.
- Pakatan Harapan (PH), the Alliance of Hope, the major opposition alliance.
- Gagasan Sejahtera (GH), Ideas of Prosperity; although more commonly known as PAS, the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party, which is the major party in this coalition. However, GH is contesting in only 158 out of 222 total parliamentary seats.

PAS was once part of PH, but has since separated and created GH due to differing views and ideologies.

BN is expected to win by a slim margin, according to most analysts, thanks to factors like 1) gerrymandering, 2) Malaysians (especially rural Malaysians) forgetting about past issues like the 1MDB corruption scandal, 3) Malaysia's terrible press freedom that forces all newspapers and TV channels to publish and air material favouring the National Front and 4) PAS's separation from PH, which could possibly split the opposition vote. The election being held in the middle of the week doesn't seem to affect the expected turnout of 85% of registered voters today.

BN also worries that PAS may split the votes among ethnic Malays (whom, I can safely say, are all Muslims) to some level, with PAS being an Islamist party, and a rising sentiment among Malays that they should vote for a party that upholds and strives for Islam. Meanwhile, some Malaysians suspect that PAS will form a pact with BN if their collective seats won would surpass PH's.

Yet PH is expected to win the popular vote again, as it did in the 2013 elections. And public support for the Alliance of Hope has been the highest yet, even more so with the former Malaysian Prime Minister, Mahathir bin Mohamad, leading the opposition alliance. Urban Malaysians, who form the most of Malaysian netizens, have shown an overwhelming support for the opposition in social media.

What do the mundane charts for Kuala Lumpur say, now that we have the date of the elections? I'm a little worried of the Liblunar, which has Moon-Mars-Pluto influences, although I don't expect the absolute worst to come out of it. The current Caplunar is dormant with a Moon-Mars conjunction. The Capsolar quotidian has Jupiter and transiting Jupiter on the IC, (or can I say it has today's partile Sun-Jupiter opposition on the CapQ MC-IC axis?) and the Cansolar Quotidian has Jupiter square the MC and Pluto on Nadir.

The Capsolar, of course, is showing a strong possibility of a change of leader and government, with Uranus partile rising, Sun partile squaring it and the Ascendant, Pluto partile on MC and Venus not far from the Zenith. Astrologically, Sun-Uranus-Pluto seems like mighty fine symbolism for the taking over of a 60-year-old governement by a new one.

Here are some links to recent articles that brief this year's Malaysian election, by:
The Washingtion Post
The Guardian
Al-Jazeera, and
CNBC.

And I'll also link Jim's earlier post of his brief mundane analysis on the Malaysian election here.

The three prisoners from N. Korea touched down at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland at 2:42 AM Eastern. The plane taxied around awhile, the President entered the plane at 2:54 AM. The three men exited the plane at exactly 3:00 AM, waited at the top of the stairs for photos, then came down the stairs at 3:01 AM to greet the VP and Secretary of State Pompeo.

Jerusalem embassy & Gaza protestes

Post by Jim Eshelman » Tue May 15, 2018 8:37 am

I'm particularly interested in what the charts show for yesterday's Gaza protests, in which Israel soldiers fired, killing over 50 Palestinians and wounding about a thousand. This came in response to the U.S. moving our embassy to Jerusalem. - The Capsolar is so very positive for Israel, which of course shows the embassy move and constitutes a U.S. recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital (Jupiter on MC, etc.), so I wanted to see what could trigger such outrage and violence in the midst of positive year charts.

To review, the Capsolar has Jupiter at MC and Venus rising! A little Mars comes with the Jupiter, a little Sun with the Venus. (And, of course, Moon-Mercury-Saturn like everybody everywhere.)

Furthermore, the Arisolar is positive - a well-aspected Jupiter exactly square Ascendant for Jerusalem. The chart bears a further Moon-Saturn aspect in the background.

And the May 6 Caplunar is happy and peaceful! Venus rises (about 1°). However, this comes in the midst of a hostile environment, with a 49' Moon-Mars conjunction (background in Israel).

Even the May 13 Arilunar is biased toward positive: Sun is exactly at MC, Jupiter near IC. Again, the lunar aspects run contrary to this trend: Moon squares Mars, background in the Middle East. Ah, b ut one thing does show that is unique to the area: Mundanely, the rather wide Moon-Mars square is only 0°12'.

We also get another negative factor in the Arilunar: Saturn is 0°30' before due west in azimuth, formung a 1°05' Sun-Saturn PVP square: The culminating Sun is square Saturn.

On daily factors, Jupiter has been crossing Israel's Capsolar MC (still in partile orb) - again, the enormous political victory - butyesterday Mars began to conjoin Capsolar Ascendant. The energ is Mars-Jupiter (which is already dominant in the Capsolar), not just Mars, but it clearly marks a few days when violence, fires, etc. would be expected. Then, CapQ MC conjoined Neptune, so mobs and general craziness were predictabke for the day.

So that's the scoop: The charts are overwhelmingly positive, making clear that the primary event for the locale was the embassy move and dedication, with all that it means. The Week chart continued this trend but introduced some negative elements, and Mars conjoined Capsolar Asc with Neptune on CapQ MC for the other events of the day.

Sichuan Airline Flight A319

Post by Jupiter Sets at Dawn » Tue May 15, 2018 4:42 pm

Sichuan Airlines flight 3U-8633 departed Chongqing at 6.30am on Monday morning, actual take off at 6:27 AM, due to arrive in Lhasa, Tibet at 9.30am. It made an emergency landing at Shuangliu International Airport in Chengdu, 250 miles west of Chongqing, at 7:43 AM.
The heating element in the right cockpit window malfunctioned and approximately 60 nautical miles west of Chongqing, the window cracked and blew out, sucking the co-pilot half way out. He was held in the plane by his seatbelt, and damaging the flight control unit, making the plane very difficult to control.
The pilot, working in temps of 40 below zero, (and with his co-pilot half out the window) took the plane into a steep dive from 32,100 feet to 23,300 feet (minimum possible over the mountains) and then to 9,800 as soon as they were clear of the mountains. Landing took place about 35 minutes after first descent, total flight time was 1hour 16 minutes
One fight attendant was hurt when she was flung into the ceiling during the first descent. The co-pilot suffered cuts and scrapes and a sprained wrist. They were the only injuries.

Kilauea just erupted from its summit, blasting "a dusty plume of ash" 30,000 feet up. This is just breaking, probably more news coming.

LATER: Reuters said it occurred at 4:15 AM.

May 18, 2018 1:30 AM Doral, Florida. A man took down a large flag at the Trump-owned Trump National Doral Golf Club, draped it over a lobby counter, fired shots into the ceiling and pulled the fire alarm , shouted anti-Trump stuff and waited for police to respond. He shot at them, they responded, and took him into custody. Police shot him in the legs (he's white) and one officer suffered a broken arm. Secret Service is investigating.

Yes, first 911 ws 7:32 AM and multiple reports say the bullets started flying at or barely after 7:30. I'll take the latter as the time, not that it matters much.

The Wikipedia article is here and gives the location as 29N23′31″, 95W08′28″.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Santa_Fe_ ... l_shooting
(This gives a slightly later time. I don't buy it, given the number of other reports and the 911 all in particular.)

The charts, though remarkable for a tragedy in general, are not particularly descriptive of a shooting. We have to consider them quality charts with the recurring Saturn on meridian at solar, lunar, and daily levels, but nothing really distinguishes a shooting from, say, an earthquake or a tanker explosion.

This was May 17, 2018. The mountain's location is 19N25'16", 155W17'12". Anything local for this eruption in contrast of the others?

The chart for the eruption itself is quite extraordinary. Uranus is 0°32' below Ascendant. Pluto is 1°06' past MC. They are in 1°38' mundane square.

Yes, the new WEEK chart punches it up. Here's the Liblunar:
3°53' Cap Mars [0°24' below Asc]
4°39' Cap Asc
4°49' Ari Mercury
4°53' Ari Uranus

With a dormant CapQ, the CANSOLAR QUOTIDIAN has the following, hitting the same degree and different versions of the same planets!
3°00' Can s Mars
3°03' Cap CanQ Asc
3°25' Ari p Uranus

Meanwhile, transiting Saturn continues in orb of Cansolar MC (1°58', will retrograde back across later).

This is quite remarkable for singling this event from the other eruptions. With the broader charts already showing the general picture, Mars and Uranus light up the week chart, the lead quotidian for the day, and the moment of the eruption.

This was a quite remarkable story. Here's what it boils down to. Regrettably we don't have coordinates for the in-air event, but this is probably close enough to capture the astrology of it.

I'm persuaded by watching these incidents day in, day out; but, formally, an even better indicator is that I could tell you, without seeing the charts for this event, what would be in them - and I was right. Scintillating right! Majestically right !! :D This isn't because I'm so good at it. It's because the astrology is so good. Anyone who read the chapter on vehicular disasters in my book and noted the profile summary at the start of the chapter, would have been able to do exactly the same thing: know what the charts would say in advance. And we're right about this kind of thing 80-90% of the time. (Life is complicated enough to throw us some zingers here and there.)

In this case, there were two things happening: First, there was a really dangerous, life-threatening bad event involving this airplane. Secondly, everybody came out alive, entirely due to the skill and heroism of the pilot. Odds were extremely high (and I mean odds of the scientific certainty type) that the following would be true:
  • It was a bad events, so malefics would dominate the angles and Moon aspects. (This isn't very persuasive: There are enough malefics and disruptors at any given time that the odds favor being right. But the rest, below)
  • Mercury would be highlighted as a main player. (Now we get into less odds-supported factors.)
  • Mercury-Uranus aspects are the most common for travel accidents or vehicular crises, so it's always safe to predict them for this sort of event.
  • Other Mercury afflictions can be expected (aided by knowing this is a Mercury-Saturn year overall; but we also count Mercury-Mars etc.).
  • These "good news, nobody got hurt" events have all been Jupiter-dominated and, to a lesser extent, Jupiter + Venus. We expect this to stand out but NOT with afflicted Venus or Jupiter, which would indicate loss of life etc. They have to be strong and unencumbered, stake their own claim to the event without interfering with the "bad stuff" placements.
  • To a lesser extent - less certain - are clear heroism indicators, usually from Sun in obvious combinations. This is often absorbed into the "lucky end" Jupiter etc., though.
  • Because it was so freaky, I want some Pluto! If not, then Uranus has to be the active player and cover for Pluto. (This is the one expectation where I was disappointed.)
Other than Pluto, which was understated, we got every one of these things. And, because we approach this as a science, we had every reasonable expectation of seeing these come through, based on an established record of past behavior. And, of course, there is still room in this to be in wonder at the workings of the universe/

The Capsolar put a 0°04' Uranus-Pluto square on angles, with the Sun-Venus-Uranus trio being compatible with the event. (Other than the freak factor, none of this was specifically expected, but it fits.)

The Arisolar gave us the luck: An unencumbered Venus-Jupiter opposition across the horizon. The plane had its window blow out in one of the luckier spots on Earth. (Separately - not interfering with the Venus-Jupiter - Moon still highlights Saturn and Pluto.)

The Caplunar also has both halves, kept separate: For luck (and, I suppose, heroism) there is an exactly angular Sun opposite a foreground Jupiter. Separately, Moon, Mercury, and Mars are all within half a degree of exact aspect! (It's wonderful the way these were kept separate.)

Then the Arilunar is the main event chart. It's astounding except it's exactly what we expect. Mercury, Uranus, and Mars are all tightly angular, with Mercury-Uranus (THE aspect of this sort of thing) being only 0°05' wide, and both square angular Mars within 1°.

For the day, we have Saturn and Pluto marking the main "freaky bad event" period, but transiting Sun at MC opposite ingress Mars: Here, at the last minute, is a clear signal of the pilot's masterful, heroic actions.

The main point is: Confirmation of the science of astrology in this case - and, actually, in most cases of well-defined significant mass events - is found in our ability to know what the charts will say before we look at them. I encourage everyone to take in the importance of this.

The Royal Wedding

Post by Jim Eshelman » Sat May 19, 2018 11:37 am

May 19, 2018, 12:00 PM, Windsor Castle (51N29'00", 0W36'15")

England's Prince Harry married American actress Meghan Markle in one of the most widely watched and socially impactful events ever. Though I don't have solid numbers yet, I'd venture to say that viewership was in the same class as Princess Diana's funeral and, due to the advances in technology, far exceeded that of the Charles and Diana wedding.

The event is also standing as one of the most socially impactful events ever, due to a variety of factors, including Prince Harry's history of trying to reform the place of the royal family in relation to the British people; the fact that he married a non-Caucasian, divorced, activist American actress; and a great healing felt in the country which has long emotionally taken Harry under its wing as the wounded small boy forced to walk on camera behind his mother's funeral barge - England's emotional equivalent of America's John-John - and to celebrate "the kid's life turning out OK."

Though he is not the likely heir to England's throne, Harry is in a place to do more than his brother William to push social progress: He is not quite as encumbered by rigorous protocol. Though times have changed since the 1930s, the real reason (it seems to me) that his great-grandfather's brother had to abdicate the throne to marry an American divorcee and Harry does not is that the former was the actual head of the Church of England and Harry likely never will be.

There is another psychological impact of this event that only astrologers are in a place to see. The new Royal Highness, the Duchess of Sussex was born six days after Charles and Diana's wedding. Her very presence is a form of taking the country back to that point in time. In many ways, this is what the event undertook to do while, simultaneously, taking England forward into a new time.

The wedding began at noon. I don't yet have the time it climaxed. As the ceremony began at noon, Jupiter was preparing to cross IC. [Scales found the time as 12:39 PM.]

Charts for events centered on the British royal family have Sun, Jupiter, Mercury, and Neptune prominent, with a low occurrence of Moon and Uranus. (We might expect more Uranus for this one because of the sharp divergences from custom.) Weddings in general have Venus and Jupiter dominant, and (if such events as Charles & Diana are a clue) no shortage of Moon-Sun combinations.

The charts, especially the Caplunar, describe this quite well. However, the amount of Saturn hitting the Capsolar for final timing was not expected (and it helps make the Bridge rather gruesome). The CapQ angles, though, are right on target, and the CanQ backs it strongly.

May 18, 2018, 12:08 PM EDT, near Havana, Cuba (specifically 22N59′29″, 82W23′28″)

A Cuban airliner carrying 114 "crashed and burned moments after takeoff" killing 111 of the people aboard. The time is from NY Times. It took off from Jose Marti International Airport. Witnesses saw the plane as it was crashing, an engine already on fire.

A Wikipedia article has appeared here, but currently has some outdated details:

Using Columbus for the coordinates, the more recent-term charts are quite expressive. The Caplunar is a "bad stuff happens" chart, with Saturn rising (0°23'), Uranus on IC (3°46'), and a little Mercury and Pluto (plus the universal 0°49' Moon-Mars conjunction). The Canlunar is a "mild but dramatic stuff" of Moon rising closely (1°) and Mars and Pluto more widely setting.

Then we get to the (as usual) amazing CapQ. The Capsolar has a 4° Mars-Jupiter conjunction and CapQ MC is right between them, in orb of both: Accident + everybody's OK. (There is also the ongoing uiversal transit of Saturn to CapQ Moon, 06' for the accident.)

The CanQ was even more obvious about the crash itself. CanQ Ascendant exactly conjoins transiting Uranus. More widely on Ascendant, but just within the 2° that keeps seeming appropriate, is the Cansolar's own Mars-Uranus square.

This is most interesting. I wonder where the story will go next.

I had already started next month's predictions, and there were so many great peace indicators - some for the world, some for U.S. - starting exactly on June 12, that I was ready to commit that, yes, this summit is happening. As of now, it's officially called off, so of course I'm going to change the prediction. (My rule is that I don't alter a prediction after the period has begun, but can change it any time up until then.) I'll persist in the underlying prediction, i.e., that a new wave of peace start then (or whatever words I end up choosing).

As for today's announcement severing it, I'm comparing it to this month's predictions. The strangest thng I see is the observtion that 5/24 has Jupiter crossing CapQ Zenith. Normally I would take this as a mark of diplomacy, not anti-diplomacy. The Canlunar is volatile, with Moon and Pluto closest to angles and Mars-Uranus square more wide from the angles, which certainly is consistent with separation and volatility. My original forecast, though, was that this would be a week when people are upset and not quiet about it, with a renewed populist wave and potentially explosive themes.

Trump, beginning two days ago, has Jupiter square his progressed Moon. For most presidents, this would be indicative of greater diplomacy but, alas, he isn't much like most presidents. It probably means some kind of personally advantageous, ego-inflating situation, which might be this move. He's still under the "revelations revelations revelations" Demi-SLR, and they've been rolling out like crazy; but the chart also has "a smidge of protection," and he's probably taking more noisy moves to redirect people's attentions. Astrologically, he's just come past the worst three or four days of the fortnight, with Saturn's transit to his natal Mercury-Neptune rotating to SNQ angles, for which I forecast "unusually difficulty, demaning days."

Bottom line, perhaps the Korea cancellation is consistent with the forecast (in his Demi-SLR) of "advantage from sacrifice, strained relationships, and a calculated path to survival."
